Jamestown rides Mimmack to victory over Port Huron, 4-1

The Jamestown Ironmen relied on the sparkling performance of Reid Mimmack in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons.

Jamestown was sparked by Luc Gerdes, who tallied one goal. Gerdes scored on the power play 4:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Jamestown. The Ironmen had gained a power play chance when Matthew Uvodich was whistled for hooking. Huba Sekesi assisted on the tally.

The Jamestown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Ironmen had been averaging 13.0 minutes in penalties per game. Jamestown's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Port Huron power plays.

Jamestown additionally got points from Ryan Urso, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Sekesi, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Elliot Tisdale also scored for Jamestown. In addition, Jamestown received assists from Victor Johansson, who had two and Ross Pavek, Dylan Zink, and Evan Ritt, who contributed one a piece.

Port Huron racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The Fighting Falcons surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Huron could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Fighting Falcons average 3.1 goals per game. Port Huron relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Ian Miller, Rick DeRosa and Uvodich took 15 of the team's 29 shots.

Mimmack rejected 28 shots on goal for the Ironmen. Jamestown registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Fighting Falcons' Max Milosek stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. For Port Huron, Bobby Brown was ejected from the game.
