Kenai River blows out Wichita Falls, 9-3

The Wichita Falls Wildcats had trouble finding ways to stop the Kenai River Brown Bears, which beat Wildcats, 9-3.

Kenai River got the win with help from a great game by Lucas Kohls, who had two goals and one assist. Kohls scored the first of his two goals at 19:27 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Kenai River. Kohls' next tally made the score 4-0 Kenai River with 15:35 left in the second period. Zac Lazzaro picked up the assist.

The Brown Bears bested their season scoring average. This season, Kenai River averages 3.7 goals per contest. The Brown Bears' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Kenai River finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Kenai River also had goals scored by Dylan Meier, Alex Jackstadt, and Matt Seidel, who each put in one and Brad LeLievre and Ansel Duesenberg, who scored two goals each. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Eric Shand, Carson Vance, Ryan Walker, Conor Deal, and Jude Warner, who each chipped in one and Jacob Davidson and Zack Zulkanycz, who contributed two a piece.

Wichita Falls was led by Charles Hemstrom, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hemstrom scored on the power play 12:01 into the second period to make the score 7-1 Kenai River. The Wildcats earned a power play opportunity when Zulkanycz was put in the box for checking from behind. Marshall Tema provided the assist. Ryan Dau also scored for Wichita Falls. More assists for Wichita Falls came via Erik Ouellette and Ben Kucera, who each chipped in one.

Gustaf Johansson rejected 23 shots on goal for the Brown Bears. Kenai River registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Wichita Falls' Evan Cowley stopped 18 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Wildcats incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
