Brookings survives penalties, beats Minot, 3-1

Larson Ice Center Red    Sat, Oct 20, 2012

The Minot Minotauros failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Brookings Blizzard shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

Brookings was sparked by Vsevold Kramerev, who racked up one goal. Kramerev scored 1:13 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Brookings. Eric Brenk provided the assist.

The Blizzard forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Brookings surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.

Brookings also got points from Brenk, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Thomas Williams also scored for Brookings. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Drew Brevig, Craig Lindegard, Derek Sand, and Cody Marooney, who each chipped in one.

Minot put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blizzard to score on any of their four power plays.

The Minotauros were led by Beau Ricketts, who scored the team's only goal. Ricketts scored on the power play 13:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. Minot earned a power play opportunity when Marooney was put in the box for roughing. Jake Clifford assisted on the tally.
