Jamestown downs Kalamazoo, 7-3

Payden Mielke registered one point to lead the Jamestown Ironmen to a 7-3 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings.

Jamestown was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 11.0 minutes per game the Ironmen had been spending in the box. Jamestown's goal total was higher than its season average. The Ironmen average 3.3 goals per game. Jamestown's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Ironmen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 48 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.8 shots per game they average.

Jamestown also got points from Joe Mottiqua, who also had one goal and one assist, Ross Pavek, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Tyler Dunagan, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Daniel Cesarz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Dylan Zink also scored for Jamestown. More assists for Jamestown came via Ryan Urso, Blake Kelley, Mitch Hall, and Evan Ritt, who contributed one a piece.

Kalamazoo forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. K-Wings had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Kalamazoo relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Robbie Payne, Luc Boby and Kyle Gattelaro took 13 of the team's 23 shots.

Kalamazoo additionally got points from Patrick Spellacy, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Matt Wurst, Taylor Burden, and Josh Dangel, who each chipped in one.

Reid Mimmack rejected 20 shots on goal for Jamestown. The Ironmen registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Jr. K-Wings' starting goalie, Alex Okicki, made 31 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nicholas Stuart, who stopped 10 shots. Kalamazoo registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
