Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Soo Eagles in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Johnstown got a shootout goal from Mitch Kontny.The Tomahawks came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Johnstown fell behind 2-1 after a goal by Soo's Dallas McLaughlin at 8:26 in the second period. The Tomahawks knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Kontny at 16:20 in the third period. Johnstown managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Tomahawks ended up below its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. JB Baker also scored for Johnstown. Other players who recorded assists for Johnstown were Brandon Brossoit and Jeff Bergh, who each chipped in one. The 34 shots that the Eagles put on net surpassed Soo's average of 27.6 shots per game this season. The Eagles were helped by Mike Sabatini, who registered one goal. Sabatini scored 3:46 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Pat Gazzillo provided the assist. More assists for Soo came via Cody Von Reuden and Jake Peacock, who contributed one a piece. Collin Brennan rejected 32 shots on goal for Johnstown. The Tomahawks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Soo's Tyler Marble stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Eagles incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
