Topeka's Gaffney deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Texas

Sean Gaffney was all over the ice for the Topeka RoadRunners, as he tallied two goals in Topeka's 5-2 win over the Texas Tornado.

Gaffney scored at 7:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka and again while 5:20 into the second to make the score 2-0 Topeka.

By firing 27 shots on goal, the RoadRunners exceeded the 23.5 shots they average per game this year. Topeka was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 20 penalty minutes.

Topeka also got points from Dan Dupell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. James Ring also scored for Topeka. In addition, Topeka received assists from Patrick Pollock, Michal Pastor, and Kyle Sharkey, who each chipped in one and Trace Strahle and Tyler Poulsen, who contributed two a piece.

Texas' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Tornado give up 2.3 goals per game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, Texas exceeded the 32.8 shots it averages per game this year. The Tornado could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 64 minutes in penalties during the game.

Texas was helped by Justin Greenberg, who had one goal and one assist. Greenberg scored on the power play 1:03 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Jackson Leef picked up the assist. Texas additionally got points from Brandon Hawkins, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were CJ Reuschlein, who had one.

Spencer Viele rejected 38 shots on goal for the RoadRunners. Topeka registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Tornado's Hunter Leisner stopped 22 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Texas registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Scott Conway and Reuschlein were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
