Behind a great game by Eric Rivard, who had one goal and two assists, the Soo Eagles defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks, 4-1. Rivard beat Chris Truehl with a shot 16:57 into the second period on the power play to make the score 2-1 Soo. A spearing penalty on Cody Boyd had put Soo on the power play. Jared VanWormer assisted on the tally. Rivard dished an assist on Cody Von Reuden's goal that made the score 1-1 at 4:05 into the second period. He added another helper on Michael Covach's goal that made the score 3-1 Soo at 4:04 into the third period.The Eagles forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Soo surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Eagles' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Johnstown power plays. Soo put 48 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.7 it averages per game. Soo also got a goal from Michal Toman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Robin Hoglund and Alexander Taulien, who each chipped in one. The Johnstown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The Tomahawks had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Johnstown failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 20 pucks on goal after averaging 26.5 shots per game this season. The Tomahawks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Johnstown puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Tomahawks were led by Jordan Watt, who scored the team's only goal. Watt scored 1:26 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Johnstown. Zach Nagelvoort rejected 19 shots on goal for the Eagles. Soo registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Truehl recorded 44 saves for Johnstown. |
