Springfield wins tough contest against Port Huron, 4-2Nelson Center Sat, Oct 13, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Springfield Jr. Blues gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons. Springfield gained the winning advantage on a goal by Terry Leibo 12:58 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Brett Skibba had a great game for the Jr. Blues, netting two goals. Skibba's tallies came at 10:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield and 41 seconds into the third to make the score 2-1 Springfield. Springfield kept Port Huron's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Blankenburg made 48 saves on 52 shots. Springfield also got points from Mike Fazio, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Springfield came via Nate Chasteen, who had three and Jack Sloan and Alex Baskakov, who contributed one a piece. The Fighting Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Blues to score on any of their five power plays. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Port Huron exceeded the 27.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Fighting Falcons were helped by Nicholas Sierra, who grabbed one goal. Sierra scored on the power play 6:33 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Port Huron had gotten the advantage when Springfield's Simon Koscielski was sent off for interference. Zach Badalamenti provided the assist. Port Huron also got a goal from Brett DAndrea as well. In addition, Port Huron received assists from Mark Evan Auk, who had one. Ryan Kellenberger made 30 saves for the Jr. Blues on 32 shots. Springfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Fighting Falcons incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
