Brookings downs Coulee Region in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Brookings Blizzard pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Coulee Region Chill on a clutch goal by Cody Marooney.

Brookings got the win on the strength of a great game by Marooney, who had two goals and one assist. Marooney scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:01 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Blizzard had taken the advantage when Coulee Region's Hunter Anderson got sent off for hooking. Marooney's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Brookings with 15:42 left in overtime.

Brookings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Coulee Region power plays. The Blizzard bested their season scoring average. This season, Brookings averages 2.9 goals per contest. The Blizzard's offense was clicking better than usual and put 47 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.9 shots per game they average.

Brookings also got a goal from Justin Moody as well. More assists for Brookings came via Bryce Gustafson, Drew Brevig, Nick DeCenzo, Thomas Williams, and Emil Blomqvist, who each chipped in one.

The Chill kept Brookings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Erick Majerle made 37 saves on 41 shots.

Coulee Region was led by Garrett Hendrickson, who had one goal and one assist. Hendrickson scored 18:20 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Sean Lang provided the assist. Coulee Region additionally got points from Jesse Tredinnick, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mac Jansen also scored for Coulee Region. Other players who recorded assists for Coulee Region were Derek Smith and Zach Doerring, who contributed one a piece.

The Blizzard incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Aaron Davis recorded 42 saves for the Chill. Coulee Region incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
