Kalamazoo beats Janesville 1-0 as Okicki gains shutout

Alex Okicki recorded a shutout against the Janesville Jets as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings picked up a 1-0 win.

Jacob McDowell's game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 4:01 in the second period.

Kalamazoo was led by McDowell, who grabbed one goal.

The Jr. K-Wings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Janesville power plays. Kalamazoo could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. K-Wings put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. Kalamazoo featured an improved defense during the game. The Jr. K-Wings average 2.7 goals allowed per game. The 42 shots that Kalamazoo put on net surpassed the Jr. K-Wings' average of 29.3 shots per game this season.

Janesville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Jets were held below their usual level of production. Janesville averages 2.3 goals per game. The Jets put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.5 they average per game.

Janesville was led by Eric Carlson, who took six shots.

Alex Okicki made 27 saves for Kalamazoo on 27 shots. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Jets' Brock Kautz stopped 41 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Janesville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
