OBrien's goals lift Aberdeen to 6-3 victory over MinotMaysa Arena Fri, Oct 12, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Aberdeen Wings relied on the scoring touch of Caleb OBrien, who netted two goals, to beat the Minot Minotauros, 6-3. OBrien scored on the power play at 45 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Aberdeen and again while on the power play 5:59 into the second to make the score 4-1 Aberdeen.In a losing effort, Minot was sparked by Tim Donohue, who tallied two goals. Donohue scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:41 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Aberdeen. A checking from behind penalty on Kyle Kruenegel had put the Minotauros on the power play. Matt Audette provided the assist. Donohue's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Aberdeen with 8:11 left in the third period. Minot earned a power play opportunity when Peter Krieger was put in the box for hooking. Mason Morelli assisted on the tally. Aberdeen found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Wings average 2.9 goals per contest. Aberdeen got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Aberdeen additionally got points from Jordan Heller, who also had one goal and one assist and Zach Kraft, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Aberdeen also got a goal from Kyle Haak as well. Other players who recorded assists for Aberdeen were Justin Parizek, who had two, Patrick Steinhauser, who had three, and Jake Horton, Heinz Koster, and Joseph Sullivan, who each chipped in one. The Minotauros' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.9 shots per game they average. Cody Milligan also scored for Minot. More assists for Minot came via Chance Crregger, Cameron Rowat, and Lucas Oliver, who contributed one a piece. Marcus Zelzer recorded 36 saves for the Wings. Aberdeen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Minot's starting goalie, Ryan Ruck, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Tyler Parks, who stopped nine shots. The Minotauros totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Minot, Jake Clifford was ejected from the game.
