Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Texas Tornado defeated the Topeka RoadRunners in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Topeka got a shootout goal from Michal Pastor. Texas also got a shootout goal from Scott Conway.The Tornado were below their usual level of shot production, taking 25 shots compared to the 35.8 Texas averages. The Tornado's offense operated below they season average. Texas puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. The Tornado were led by Brandon Hawkins, who had one goal. Hawkins scored on the power play 7:19 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Texas. An interference penalty on Mick Bruce had put Texas on the power play. Jackson Leef provided the assist. In addition, Texas received assists from Anthony Mousseau, who had one. The RoadRunners could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Topeka averages 3.6 goals per game. The RoadRunners were led by Kyle Sharkey, who scored the team's only goal. Sharkey scored on the power play 14:17 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Topeka had taken the advantage when the Tornado's Mousseau got sent off for high sticking. Sean Gaffney assisted on the tally. Texas' Hunter Leisner stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Tornado incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mackenzie Sawyer rejected 23 shots on goal for the RoadRunners. Topeka incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
