Kenai River holds on for 7-5 win against Wenatchee

The Wenatchee Wild tried to dig themselves out of a six-goal hole, but the Kenai River Brown Bears held on for a 7-5 victory.

Kenai River took a 7-1 lead during the second period, only to have Wenatchee storm back on a Noah Nelson goal 19:12 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Brown Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wenatchee power plays. Kenai River found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Brown Bears average 3.3 goals per contest.

Kenai River was helped by Matt Seidel, who registered three goals. Kenai River additionally got points from Zac Lazzaro, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Zack Zulkanycz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kenai River also got a goal from Conor Deal as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Eric Shand, Lucas Kohls, and Chris Nuth, who contributed one a piece and Jacob Davidson and Brad LeLievre, who each chipped in two.

The Wild's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Wenatchee gives up 2.5 goals per game. By firing 43 shots on goal, the Wild exceeded the 26.8 shots they average per game this year.

Wenatchee also got points from Joshua Hartley, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Chris Kerr, who also registered one goal and one assist. Blake Roubos also scored for Wenatchee. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Jacob Barber, who had two and Dillon Eichstadt, Chris Diver, Nicholas Kuchera, Jono Davis, and Derick Kuchera, who contributed one a piece.

Gustaf Johansson rejected 38 shots on goal for the Brown Bears. Kenai River incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wenatchee's starting goalie, Robert Nichols, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Evan McCarthy, who stopped two shots. The Wild ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
