Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Texas Tornado defeated the Wichita Falls Wildcats in a shootout 3-2 (3-2 SO). The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Wichita Falls got shootout goals from Kyle Bauman and Salminen Sami. Texas also got shootout goals from Brandon Hawkins and Justin Greenberg.The Tornado relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jason Eddy, Greenberg and Jackson Leef took 19 of the team's 36 shots. Texas also got a goal from Hawkins as well. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Nick Neville, Scott Conway, and CJ Reuschlein, who contributed one a piece. The Wildcats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Wichita Falls was helped by Sami, who registered one goal and one assist. Sami scored on the power play 7:19 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Wildcats earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Paine was put in the box for roughing. Charles Hemstrom provided the assist. Wichita Falls also got points from Hemstrom, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Bauman, who had two. Jordan Kaufer rejected 24 shots on goal for Texas. The Tornado incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Evan Cowley recorded 33 saves for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
