Seidel's big game bests Fresno in 6-2 Kenai River win

Matt Seidel had one goal and two assists to lead the Kenai River Brown Bears to a 6-2 victory over the Fresno Monsters.

Seidel scored 9:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. Andrew Herlofsky picked up the assist.

In a losing effort, Fresno was sparked by Mikhail Bushinski, who grabbed two goals. Bushinski scored the first of his two goals at 16:51 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Herlofsky provided the assist. Bushinski's next tally made the score 2-1 Fresno with 19:27 left in the second period. Mitchell Snyder assisted on the tally.

Kenai River put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Monsters to score on any of their three power plays. The 30 shots that the Brown Bears put on net surpassed Kenai River's average of 27.1 shots per game this season. The Brown Bears outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Kenai River averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Kenai River additionally got points from Brad LeLievre, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Lucas Kohls, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kenai River also got a goal from Conor Deal as well. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Jacob Davidson, who had two and Eric Shand, Ryan Walker, and Wasell Kellen, who contributed one a piece.

Fresno found itself short handed often, totaling 19 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. With 37 shots on target during the contest, the Monsters exceeded the 23.8 shots they average per game this year.

Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Karl Andersen and Dan Sherer, who each chipped in one.

The Brown Bears' Sean Healy stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Kenai River ended with 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. The Brown Bears ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kellen was ejected from the game. Tomas Sholl made 24 saves for Fresno on 30 shots.
