Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings were able to defeat the Michigan Warriors, 6-1.

Kalamazoo was led by Kyle Gattelaro, who registered one goal and one assist. Gattelaro scored 13:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kalamazoo. Robbie Payne picked up the assist.

The Jr. K-Wings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Kalamazoo had been spending in the box. The Jr. K-Wings stifled Michigan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kalamazoo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Jr. K-Wings have scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The defense for Kalamazoo played an important role offensively, racking up 17 shots on goal. With 42 shots on target during the contest, the Jr. K-Wings exceeded the 27.2 shots they average per game this year.

Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Sam Johnson, Jesse Junttila, and Christian George, who contributed one a piece and Taylor Burden and Donovan Gardiner, who each chipped in two.

The Warriors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kalamazoo power plays. Michigan was below its usual level of shot production, taking 15 shots compared to the 23.6 the Warriors average.

Michigan was led by Corey Schueneman, who scored the team's only goal. Schueneman scored short handed 1:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan. The Warriors were on a disadvantage when Darren McCormick went off the ice for hooking.
