Fresno holds on for 3-2 win against Kenai River

The Kenai River Brown Bears tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Fresno Monsters held on for a 3-2 victory.

Fresno made the score 3-1 on a goal by Andrew McDonald at 2:31 in the third period, and Kenai River got as close as 3-2 when Jake Bushey scored 19:57 into the third period.

The Monsters' penalty kill excelled, as Fresno gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Monsters average 23.2 shots on goal per game, but only sent 15 pucks on net against the Brown Bears.

Karl Andersen also scored for Fresno. In addition, Fresno received assists from James Mathias, Christian Salvato, Mikhail Bushinski, Jordan Haskell, Trevor Husch, and Gordon Wells, who contributed one a piece.

Kenai River excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The 32 shots that the Brown Bears put on net surpassed Kenai River's average of 24.8 shots per game this season.

The Brown Bears were led by Matt Seidel, who racked up one goal and one assist. Seidel scored 16:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. Lucas Kohls provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Jacob Davidson and Chris Nuth, who each chipped in one.

Tomas Sholl made 30 saves for Fresno on 32 shots. The Monsters incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Gustaf Johansson rejected 12 shots on goal for Kenai River. The Brown Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
