Topeka rolls over Odessa, 5-0

The Odessa Jackalopes had trouble finding ways to stop the Topeka RoadRunners, which beat Jackalopes, 5-0.

Topeka's penalty kill excelled, as the RoadRunners gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Topeka was sparked by Drew Kariofiles, who registered one goal. Kariofiles scored 4:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka.

The RoadRunners stifled Odessa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Topeka's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the RoadRunners finished with 23 penalty minutes. Topeka's defensemen bolstered the RoadRunners' offensive attack, as they bombarded Jacob Theut with 16 shots. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Topeka exceeded the 22.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Topeka also got points from Tyler Poulsen, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Sean Gaffney, who also had one goal and one assist, and Kyle Sharkey, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Topeka also got a goal from Collin Montgomery as well. More assists for Topeka came via Michal Pastor, who had two and Patrick Pollock and Mick Bruce, who each chipped in one.

The Jackalopes were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Odessa had been spending in the box.

The Jackalopes were led by Pat Thompson, who took three shots.

The RoadRunners' Mackenzie Sawyer stopped 19 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Topeka registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Jacob Theut took the loss and made 22 saves before being replaced by Blake Wojtala who made five saves. Odessa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Minx was ejected from the game.
