Odessa outlasts Topeka, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Odessa Jackalopes escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Topeka RoadRunners.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tyler Minx secured the win for Odessa with a goal in the third period.

The Jackalopes were paced by Minx, who had one goal. Minx scored 19:58 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Odessa. Ryan Doucet picked up the assist.

Odessa relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Minx, Josh Racek and Doucet took 11 of the team's 20 shots. The Jackalopes' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 11 shots between them.

Lawrence Cornellier also scored for Odessa. More assists for Odessa came via Austin Ho, Taylor Portner, and Jalen Krogman, who contributed one a piece.

Topeka excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

The RoadRunners were helped by Mick Bruce, who racked up one goal. Bruce scored 18:54 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Drew Kariofiles provided the assist. Topeka also got a goal from Sean Gaffney as well. In addition, Topeka received assists from Luke Veitch and Michal Pastor, who each chipped in one.

Jacob Theut rejected 26 shots on goal for Odessa. The Jackalopes ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Topeka's Spencer Viele stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The RoadRunners totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
