Texas outlasts Corpus Christi, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Texas Tornado escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays.

Texas gained the winning advantage on a goal by Brandon Hawkins 6:00 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Tornado got the win thanks to a great game by Hawkins, who had two goals and one assist. Hawkins scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Texas. Texas earned a power play opportunity when Eric Purcell was put in the box for hooking. Jackson Leef provided the assist. Hawkins' next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Texas with 14:00 left in the third period. Scott Conway assisted on the tally.

Corpus Christi was unable to stop the Tornado from sending pucks towards the net, and Texas eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

CJ Reuschlein also scored for Texas. In addition, Texas received assists from Alex Temby, Anthony Mousseau, and Jason Eddy, who each chipped in one.

By firing 39 shots on goal, the IceRays exceeded the 24.8 shots they average per game this year.

Corpus Christi was helped by Roman Uchyn, who registered one goal. Uchyn scored 11:39 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Joe Ginley picked up the assist. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Perry DArrisso as well. More assists for Corpus Christi came via Rudy Sulmonde, Wayland Williams, and Grant Hutton, who contributed one a piece.

Hunter Leisner rejected 37 shots on goal for the Tornado. Texas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The IceRays' Jett Salinas stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Corpus Christi incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
