Johnstown squeaks by Michigan, 4-2

The Johnstown Tomahawks gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Michigan Warriors.

Johnstown gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jesse Kessler 14:56 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Tomahawks were led by Kessler, who had one goal.

With 39 shots on target during the contest, Johnstown exceeded the 24.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Johnstown additionally got points from Brandon Reinholz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Johnstown also got a goal from Brandon Brossoit as well. More assists for Johnstown came via Ian Spencer, JB Baker, and Cody Gylling, who each chipped in one.

Michigan forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Warriors had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Michigan's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Johnstown power plays.

The Warriors were helped by Brock Labelle, who tallied one goal. Labelle scored 17:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Zack Szajner assisted on the tally. Michigan also got points from AJ Marcinek, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

Bodhi Engum made 20 saves for the Tomahawks on 22 shots. Johnstown ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Michigan's starting goalie, Michael Pesendorfer, made 35 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Trevor Gorsuch, who stopped zero shots. The Warriors registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
