Fairbanks squeaks by Springfield, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Fairbanks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Devin Loe 14:51 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

In a losing effort, Springfield was paced by Nate Chasteen, who tallied two goals. Chasteen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. The Jr. Blues had gained a power play chance when Garret Clemment was whistled for tripping. Jack Sloan provided the assist. Chasteen's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Springfield with 7:48 left in the first period. A hooking penalty on Jakob Romo had put Springfield on the power play. Brett Skibba picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, the Jr. Blues were led by Chasteen, who racked up two goals.

The Ice Dogs struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Springfield to score two power play goals on three chances. With 41 shots on target during the contest, Fairbanks exceeded the 27.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Fairbanks additionally got points from Doug Rose, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Colton Wolter also scored for Fairbanks. More assists for Fairbanks came via Nick Hinz, who had two and Kyle Lee and Ben Campbell, who contributed one a piece.

In addition, Springfield received assists from Mike Fazio and Alex Baskakov, who each chipped in one.

Steve Perry made 28 saves for the Ice Dogs on 30 shots. Fairbanks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Blues' Ryan Kellenberger stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Springfield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
