Fresno completes comeback, beats Minot, 5-4

The Fresno Monsters climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Minot Minotauros, 5-4.

Fresno let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Monsters took a 1-0 advantage on a power play goal by Gordon Wells at 4:05 in the first period. Fresno found itself down 4-2 after Minot's Cameron Rowat put the puck home at 7:42 in the second period. After tying things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kyle Sucher at 14:28 in the third, the Monsters got the game-winner from Sean Kalbak at 18:07 in the third period.

Kalbak had two goals to lead Fresno to victory.

The Monsters were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Fresno surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Monsters surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Fresno averages 2.5 goals per game. The Monsters put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.9 they average per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Karl Andersen, Mikhail Bushinski, Kyle Buffardi, and Daniel Rosse, who contributed one a piece and Mark Bittner and Jordan Haskell, who each chipped in two.

By firing 24 shots on goal, the Minotauros exceeded the 21.4 shots they average per game this year.

Minot was helped by Mason Morelli, who racked up one goal. Morelli scored on the power play 14:41 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Minot. The Minotauros had taken the advantage when Fresno's Rosse got sent off for high sticking. Jadin Martin provided the assist. Minot also got points from Tim Donohue, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cody Milligan also scored for Minot. More assists for Minot came via Lucas Oliver, who had two and David Dalbec, Ryan Doner, and Tyler Parks, who contributed one a piece.

Macauley Haight rejected 20 shots on goal for the Monsters. Fresno registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Monsters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chase Sisk was ejected from the game. Minot's Parks stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Minotauros totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play.
