Fairbanks completes comeback, beats Springfield, 3-2Nelson Center Fri, Sep 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs rallied from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues. Fairbanks never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Ice Dogs fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Springfield's Brett Skibba at 7:08 in the first period. Fairbanks tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Logan Wendling at 4:09 in the third period. The Ice Dogs netted the game winner at 4:52 in the third period on a goal by Wendling. Fairbanks was led by Kyle Lee, who tallied one goal. The Ice Dogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Springfield power plays. With 38 shots on target during the contest, Fairbanks exceeded the 25.6 shots it averages per game this year. Fairbanks also got a goal from Brett Gervais as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Doug Rose, Nick Hinz, Jakob Romo, Chandler Madry, Devin Loe, and Jayson Angus, who contributed one a piece. The Jr. Blues' offense rang up 36 shots on the Ice Dogs' net. Springfield was helped by Parker Johnson, who finished with one goal. Johnson scored 5:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. James McGing assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Jack Sloan, Simon Koscielski, and Alex Baskakov, who each chipped in one. Fairbanks' Kevin Aldridge stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Ice Dogs incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Matt Leon rejected 35 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
