GAME RECAP

Nichols, Wenatchee blank Minot, 3-0

Maysa Arena    Fri, Sep 21, 2012

The Wenatchee Wild used a sparkling performance by Robert Nichols to take down the Minot Minotauros, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Wenatchee's 3-0 shutout victory.

Minot's power play was ineffective against the Wild's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:09 into the second period. Ten fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Wenatchee forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and six majors for 96 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 41.0 minutes per game the Wild had been spending in the box. Wenatchee's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Minot power plays.

The Wild were helped by Blake Roubos, who grabbed one goal. Roubos scored 3:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Jono Davis assisted on the tally. Chris Kerr also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Joshua Hartley and David Mead, who each chipped in one.

The Minotauros were often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and five majors for 83 minutes in penalty time. Minot surpassed its season average of 34.0 penalty minutes per game. The Minotauros' offense was clicking better than usual and put 26 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.4 shots per game they average.

Minot was led by Jake Clifford, who took three shots.

Nichols recorded 26 saves for Wenatchee. The Wild registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Wenatchee, Chris Jones, Evan Schmidbauer, Tyler Bruneteau, and Mead were ejected from the contest. The Minotauros' Ryan Ruck stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Team's Chance Crregger, Bryan McFarlane, and Ryan Doner were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
