Soo hangs on, beats Kalamazoo 4-2

The Soo Eagles took the lead against the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

A goal 2:41 into the the first period by Gavin Burbach proved to be the game winner, and powered Soo to the victory Hunter Long picked up the assist.

Kalamazoo's power play was ineffective against the Eagles' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Soo was paced by Eric Rivard, who finished with one goal. Rivard scored 12:36 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Soo. Alexander Taulien assisted on the tally.

The defensemen of the Eagles were also effective in the Jr. K-Wings' zone, and came away with two goals. With 39 shots on target during the contest, Soo exceeded the 27.0 shots it averages per game this year. The Eagles found themselves short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Michael Lant also scored for Soo. More assists for Soo came via Jared VanWormer, who had one.

Kalamazoo's offense operated below it season average. The Jr. K-Wings average 4.4 goals per game. Kalamazoo put 48 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.4 it averages per game.

The Jr. K-Wings were helped by Luc Boby, who had two goals. Boby scored the first of his two goals at 12:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Soo. Nolan Culver picked up the assist. Boby's next tally made the score 3-2 Soo with 15:46 left in the second period. Culver assisted on the tally.

Soo's Tyler Marble stopped 46 shots out of the 48 that he faced. The Eagles registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Alex Okicki made 35 saves for Kalamazoo on 39 shots. The Jr. K-Wings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
