Topeka downs Odessa in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Kyle Sharkey gave the Topeka RoadRunners a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Odessa Jackalopes when he scored 3:39 into the extra period.

Sharkey had a great game for Topeka, netting two goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:03 into the third period. Seven fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The RoadRunners were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and three majors for 55 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Topeka had been spending in the box. The RoadRunners relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Sharkey, JD Cotroneo and Dallas Crum took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Collin Montgomery, who had two and Cam Bleck, Drew Kariofiles, and Sean Gaffney, who each chipped in one.

Odessa forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Jackalopes had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Odessa's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Topeka power plays. The Jackalopes relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Tyler Cayemberg, Lawrence Cornellier and Ryan Doucet took 12 of the team's 22 shots.

In addition, Odessa received assists from Jared Docken, Jalen Krogman, and Tyler Minx, who contributed one a piece.

Spencer Viele made 20 saves for Topeka on 22 shots. Team's Luke Veitch and Michal Pastor were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Jacob Theut rejected 23 shots on goal for Odessa. The Jackalopes registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Odessa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Johan Sjoden was ejected from the game.
