Wenatchee shrugs off penalties, upends Brookings, 5-2

The Wenatchee Wild, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Brookings Blizzard's power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Wenatchee was sparked by Max McHugh, who had one goal. McHugh scored 16:02 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wenatchee. Jono Davis picked up the assist.

The Wild's offense was clicking better than usual and put 43 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.0 shots per game they average.

Wenatchee also got points from Davis, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Dillon Eichstadt also scored for Wenatchee. More assists for Wenatchee came via Jacob Barber and Blake Roubos, who contributed one a piece and Chris Diver, Joshua Hartley, and Noah Nelson, who each chipped in two.

Brookings averages 23.4 shots on goal per game, but only sent 15 pucks on net against Wenatchee. The Blizzard's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Brookings is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. The Blizzard could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Brookings was led by Thomas Williams, who registered one goal. Williams scored 10:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Shayne McLaughlin assisted on the tally. Brookings also got a goal from Dylan Zink as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Justin Moody and Zane Popilock, who contributed one a piece.

Jordyn Kaufer made 13 saves for the Wild on 15 shots. Wenatchee incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Nick Deery recorded 38 saves for the Blizzard. Brookings registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
