Topeka shrugs off penalties, upends Coulee Region, 4-1Schwan SR-2 Fri, Sep 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Coulee Region Chill failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Topeka RoadRunners shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-1. Topeka was led by Drew Kariofiles, who tallied one goal. Kariofiles scored on the power play 15:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. The RoadRunners earned a power play opportunity when Matt Williams was put in the box for high sticking. Tyler Poulsen picked up the assist. Topeka's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Coulee Region power plays. By firing 39 shots on goal, the RoadRunners exceeded the 30.0 shots they average per game this year. Topeka also got a goal from Cam Bleck as well. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Luke Veitch, Michal Pastor, and Trace Strahle, who each chipped in one. Coulee Region was below its usual level of shot production, taking 16 shots compared to the 24.3 the Chill average. Coulee Region's defensemen bolstered the Chill's offensive attack, as they bombarded Spencer Viele with eight shots. Coulee Region was led by Hunter Anderson, who scored the team's only goal. Anderson scored 18:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Coulee Region. Zach Doerring assisted on the tally. Viele recorded 15 saves for Topeka. The RoadRunners incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Chill's Devin Kero stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Coulee Region incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
