Kenai River falls to Odessa in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Odessa Jackalopes pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears on a clutch goal by Lawrence Cornellier.

Cornellier had two goals and one assist to lead Odessa. Cornellier scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:42 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Jackalopes earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Walker was put in the box for roughing. Ryan Doucet picked up the assist. Cornellier's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Odessa with 19:38 left in overtime. Tyler Minx assisted on the tally.

Odessa's penalty kill excelled, as the Jackalopes gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Odessa's offense was clicking better than usual and put 26 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.2 shots per game it averages. The Jackalopes bested their season scoring average. This season, Odessa averages 2.4 goals per contest.

Odessa also got points from Anthony Olguin, who also had one goal and one assist and Doucet, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Odessa also got a goal from Pat Thompson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Odessa were Cody Slocum, Taylor Portner, and Mike Mezzano, who each chipped in one.

Kenai River's offense rang up 34 shots on the Jackalopes' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Brown Bears were helped by Kirk Van Arkel, who grabbed one goal. Van Arkel scored on the power play 13:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kenai River. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Jalen Krogman had put Kenai River on the power play. Walker picked up the assist. Kenai River additionally got points from Chris Nuth, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Eric Shand also scored for Kenai River. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Alex Jackstadt and Lucas Kohls, who contributed one a piece and Dylan Meier and Zac Lazzaro, who each chipped in two.

Blake Wojtala rejected 30 shots on goal for Odessa. The Jackalopes incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Sean Healy took the otl and made seven saves before being replaced by Gustaf Johansson who made 14 saves. The Brown Bears incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
