Schwan SR-2    Thu, Sep 13, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brookings Blizzard defeated the Springfield Jr. Blues in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Brookings overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Blizzard fell behind 1-0 after a power play goal by Springfield's James McGing at 12:21 in the second period. Brookings tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Thomas Williams at 17:11 in the third period.

The Blizzard's Erick Majerie was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Majerie will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.92 entering the contest.

The Jr. Blues relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Parker Johnson, Jack Sloan and Mike Fazio took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Brett Skibba, who had one.

Brookings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matt Leon rejected 29 shots on goal for Springfield. The Jr. Blues incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
