Wichita Falls hangs on, beats Janesville 3-1

The Wichita Falls Wildcats beat the Janesville Jets, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Wichita Falls took over the lead for good with a goal by Colin Staub at 4:00 in the first period. The Wildcats had gained a power play chance when Albergo was whistled for checking from behind. Eliot Grauer provided the assist.

Kyle Bauman had a great game for Wichita Falls, netting two goals. Bauman found the back of the net on the power play 12:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wichita Falls and again while on the power play 9:54 into the second to make the score 3-1 Wichita Falls.

The Wildcats stifled Janesville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wichita Falls' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.9 shots per game it averages.

In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Erik Ouellette, who had two and Patrick Yudez and Ben Kucera, who each chipped in one.

The the Jets penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Janesville had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Jets were led by Austin Vieth, who scored the team's only goal. Vieth scored 14:45 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. Matt Salituro assisted on the tally.

Cooper Cook recorded 16 saves for the Wildcats. Wichita Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Brock Kautz made 37 saves for Janesville on 40 shots. The Jets registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
