Huge game by McPherson boosts Texas over Fresno, 6-3Schwan SR-2 Thu, Sep 13, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Mitchell McPherson was all over the ice for the Texas Tornado, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Texas' 6-3 win over the Fresno Monsters. McPherson found the back of the net on the power play 9:08 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Texas and again while 1:12 into the third to make the score 5-3 Texas.The Tornado excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Texas also got points from Jackson Leef, who also finished with two goals and three assists to lead the team in points and Leo Lumm, who also registered one goal and one assist. Texas also got a goal from Alex Temby as well. In addition, Texas received assists from Nick Blas, Nick Neville, Michael Hoy, Anthony Mousseau, Justin Greenberg, and CJ Reuschlein, who contributed one a piece. Fresno's offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.0 shots per game it averages. The Monsters' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Texas' power play unit. Fresno relied heavily on its defensemen to assist its forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring three goals on 11 shots. The Monsters were helped by Kyle Buffardi, who racked up one goal. Buffardi scored 15:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fresno. Daniel Rosse provided the assist. Carl Witty also scored for Fresno. More assists for Fresno came via James Mathias, Mikhail Bushinski, and Zack Holstrom, who each chipped in one. Hunter Leisner recorded 24 saves for the Tornado. Texas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Fresno's Corey Foster stopped 20 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Monsters incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
