Brookings beats Johnstown 4-2 after comeback scare

The Johnstown Tomahawks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Brookings Blizzard held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Nick DeCenzo put Brookings up 4-1 in the third period, but Johnstown pulled to within two on Cody Gylling's tally 18:42 into the third period.

The Blizzard got the win on the strength of a great game by Thomas Williams, who had one goal and two assists. Williams scored 18:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brookings. Justin Moody provided the assist.

Brookings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Brookings additionally got points from Moody, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brookings also got a goal from Grant Eichstadt as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Craig Lindegard, Casey Purpur, and Matt Youso, who each chipped in one.

The Tomahawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Brookings power plays. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.0 shots per game it averages.

Jordan Watt also scored for Johnstown. More assists for Johnstown came via Brandon Brossoit and Jeff Bergh, who contributed one a piece.

Drew Weigman recorded 29 saves for the Blizzard. The Tomahawks' Bodhi Engum stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Johnstown incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
