California Titans 18U uses shootout to best Pikes Peak Miners 18U, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as California Titans 18U defeated Pikes Peak Miners 18U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Pikes Peak Miners 18U got a shootout goal from Tristan de Swardt. California Titans 18U's other shootout goal was scored by Blake Aguilar.

California Titans 18U saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. California Titans 18U made the score 3-0 on a power play goal by Nicholas Wallace at 10:00 in the third period. Pikes Peak Miners 18U evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Luc Gradisar at 18:41 in the third period.

California Titans 18U stifled Pikes Peak Miners 18U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. California Titans 18U found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 13 shots against Pikes Peak Miners 18U's defense. California Titans 18U's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as California Titans 18U finished with 20 penalty minutes.

California Titans 18U was led by Blake Brazil, who had two goals. Brazil scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 California Titans 18U. California Titans 18U had taken the advantage when Pikes Peak Miners 18U's Gustav Wollenzien got sent off for hooking. Austin Wilk provided the assist. Brazil's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 California Titans 18U with 4:36 left in the second period. Jake Lam assisted on the tally. More assists for California Titans 18U came via Jay Clarke and Liam Stritzinger, who contributed one a piece.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U's power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on nine chances. Pikes Peak Miners 18U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Pikes Peak Miners 18U was helped by Will Matheson, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Matheson scored 14:52 into the third period to make the score 3-1 California Titans 18U. Connor Hutchins picked up the assist. Pikes Peak Miners 18U additionally got points from Hutchins, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Pikes Peak Miners 18U received assists from Nicholas Bower and Drew Punnett, who each chipped in one.

Brandon Brown recorded 18 saves for California Titans 18U. California Titans 18U registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Grant Payne made nine saves for Pikes Peak Miners 18U on 12 shots.
