Detroit Falcons 16U uses shootout to best Texas Tornado 16U, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Detroit Falcons 16U defeated Texas Tornado 16U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Texas Tornado 16U's shootout goal was scored by James Distefano. In addition to the clincher, Detroit Falcons 16U got a shootout goal from Tyler Groth.

Detroit Falcons 16U overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Detroit Falcons 16U trailed 2-0 after a goal by Texas Tornado 16U's Ryan Kheir at 3:15 in the first period. Detroit Falcons 16U tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Alexander Ochterbeck at 1:32 in the third period.

Detroit Falcons 16U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Texas Tornado 16U power plays. Detroit Falcons 16U outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, Detroit Falcons 16U averages 1.6 goal per contest.

Detroit Falcons 16U was led by Alexander Yunanov, who finished with three goals. In addition, Detroit Falcons 16U received assists from Aaron Wierszerski, Jacob Rushlow, and Jake Kopinski, who contributed one a piece.

Benjamin Allen also scored for Texas Tornado 16U. Other players who recorded assists for Texas Tornado 16U were Mark Sanchez and Jack Stensgard, who each chipped in one.

Texas Tornado 16U ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Allen was ejected from the game.
