Toronto holds on for 2-1 win against Burlington

The Burlington Cougars tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Toronto Junior Canadiens held on for a 2-1 victory.

A goal by Aaron Spivak put Toronto up 2-0 in the first period, but Burlington pulled to within one on Cooper Richards's tally 19:29 into the third period.

The Junior Canadiens were sparked by Spivak, who racked up one goal and one assist. Spivak scored 10:05 into the first period to make the score Toronto. Jordan Carvalho provided the assist.

Toronto managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Junior Canadiens ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Toronto forced the Cougars goalie Alex Murray to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Toronto additionally got points from Carvalho, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Derek Perl and Anthony Repaci, who contributed one a piece.

Burlington stifled the Junior Canadiens' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars' offense operated below they season average. Burlington averages 3.5 goals per game.

In addition, Burlington received assists from Jeremy Gottzmann, who had one.

Nathan Colitto made 21 saves for Toronto on 22 shots. The Junior Canadiens registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Murray rejected 35 shots on goal for the Cougars. Burlington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
