Wellington vanquishes Trenton in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wellington Dukes defeated the Trenton Golden Hawks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Trenton's shootout goal was scored by Krystian Yorke. Wellington also got a shootout goal from Erick Delaurentis.

The Dukes put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their five power plays. Wellington kept Trenton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Victor Adamo made 33 saves on 36 shots.

The Dukes were helped by Cam Nicoll, who racked up one goal. Nicoll scored 2:37 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Jan Kaminsky picked up the assist. Wellington additionally got points from Jake Marchment, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Spencer Turcotte, who had one.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Wellington power plays. Wellington was unable to stop Trenton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Hawks eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Trenton was helped by Brandon Scott, who tallied one goal and one assist. Scott scored 12:52 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Robbie Hall assisted on the tally. Trenton also got points from Loren Ulett, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Trenton received assists from Mike Nedoszytko, who had one.

The Dukes' Matt Larose stopped 39 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Wellington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Golden Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
