Buffalo beats Mississauga 7-5 after comeback scare

The Mississauga Chargers tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Buffalo Jr. Sabres would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 7-5.

Buffalo made the score 7-3 on a goal by Josh Kielich at 10:58 in the third period, and Mississauga got as close as 7-5 when Stefano Alonzi scored 18:34 into the third period.

The Jr. Sabres got the win behind a great game by Tyler Gjurich, who had one goal and four assists. Gjurich scored on the power play 16:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. Buffalo earned a power play opportunity when Nick Zottl was put in the box for hooking. Pat Egan assisted on the tally.

The Chargers were unable to stop the Jr. Sabres from sending pucks towards the net, and Buffalo eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. The Jr. Sabres' goal total was higher than their season average. Buffalo has scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The Jr. Sabres could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Buffalo also got points from Ryan Schmelzer, who also had one goal and two assists, Frank Hora(APM), who also finished with one goal and one assist, Kielich, who also registered one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Max Mikowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Egan, who also had one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Nathan Pelligra as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Brian Ruff, who had one.

Mississauga struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 64 penalty minutes for 14 opposing power plays.

The Chargers were led by Lucas Venuto, who grabbed two goals and two assists. Venuto scored the first of his two goals at 15:08 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Buffalo. Nick Tetley picked up the assist. Venuto's next tally made the score 7-4 Buffalo with 8:02 left in the third period. Vince Figliomeni provided the assist. Mississauga additionally got points from Figliomeni, who also finished with one goal and two assists. More assists for Mississauga came via Matthew Hore, who had one and Trevor Warnaar, who had three.

Bobby Bloomfield recorded 24 saves for Buffalo. Alex Lepore made 38 saves for Mississauga on 45 shots. The Chargers registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
