Burlington vanquishes Toronto in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Burlington Cougars defeated the Toronto Junior Canadiens in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Toronto's power play was ineffective against Burlington's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Junior Canadiens to score on any of their seven power plays. Toronto was unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Burlington was led by Shane Conacher, who finished with one goal and one assist. Conacher scored 7:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Tyler Lepore picked up the assist. Burlington also got points from Jeremy Gottzmann, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Burlington also got a goal from Mark Rodgers as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Joe Sullivan, Adam Glynn, and Jack OHara, who each chipped in one.

The Junior Canadiens excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Toronto forced the Cougars goalie Alex Murray to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Junior Canadiens were helped by Nicholas Jarzabek, who had one goal. Jarzabek scored 17:40 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Toronto. Daniel Lombardi provided the assist. Mark Spadafora also scored for Toronto. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Adam Logozzo, Danny Liscio, Connor Prudames, Aaron Spivak, and Anthony Repaci, who contributed one a piece.

Alex Murray made 34 saves for Burlington on 37 shots. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Nathan Colitto recorded 34 saves for Toronto. The Junior Canadiens incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
