Orangeville squeaks by Hamilton, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Orangeville Flyers escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Hamilton Red Wings.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brandon Gaudette secured the win for Orangeville with a goal in the third period.

Mathew Thompson had two goals and one assist to lead the Flyers. Thompson scored the first of his two goals at 14:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Orangeville. Thompson's next tally made the score 5-3 Orangeville with 8:33 left in the third period. Kyle Thacker picked up the assist.

Orangeville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Hamilton power plays. The Flyers' offense rang up 61 shots on Hamilton's net.

Orangeville also got points from Keegan Ackerland, who also registered one goal and one assist. Orangeville also got a goal from Kelby Lorenz as well. More assists for Orangeville came via Joshua Decosta, who had two and Thomas Tsicos and Matteo Condotta, who each chipped in one.

The Red Wings stifled Orangeville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hamilton forced the Flyers goalie Taylor Welsh to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Red Wings were led by Dylan Hutton, who had one goal and one assist. Hutton scored 1:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Orangeville. Luke Laidlaw assisted on the tally. Adam Brady also scored for Hamilton. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Troy Crema, Chris Micallef, and Jordan Merante, who contributed one a piece.

Orangeville's Welsh stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Allen Avery made 56 saves for Hamilton on 61 shots. The Red Wings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
