Buffalo takes care of Georgetown early, wins 7-0

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 7-0 over the Georgetown Raiders.

Tyler Gjurich had four goals and one assist to lead Buffalo. Gjurich's first goal came 6:30 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:03 into the first, at 14:09 into the second, and at 17:03 into the second.

The Jr. Sabres pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 31 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:55 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Buffalo made Raiders' goaltenders to work in net, taking 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. Gabe Grunwald made four stops and Tyler Lewis made 22. The Jr. Sabres stifled Georgetown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Buffalo's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Jr. Sabres gives up 2.9 goals on average per game. Buffalo bested its season scoring average. This season, the Jr. Sabres average 3.9 goals per contest.

Buffalo additionally got points from Ryan Schmelzer, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Nolan Sheeran, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Max Mikowski as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Nathan Sucese, Josh Kielich, Tim Kielich, and Pat Egan, who each chipped in one and David Seward, Ryall Ledyard, and Sean Federow, who contributed two a piece.

The the Raiders penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and four majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. Georgetown surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Raiders were held below their usual level of production. Georgetown puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The defense for the Raiders tightened up when they had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 12 Buffalo power plays. Georgetown's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Raiders average 2.5 goals allowed per game.

The Jr. Sabres' Parker Gahagen stopped 19 shots out of the 19 that he faced. For Buffalo, R.J. Sciarrone, Tony DeVito, and Dylan Howatt were ejected from the contest. Georgetown registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Brendan Woods, Drake Hart, Michael Stevens, and Robbie Murden were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
