Huge game by Laidlaw boosts Hamilton over Milton, 6-3

The Hamilton Red Wings' Luke Laidlaw had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 6-3 win over the Milton Icehawks.

Laidlaw's tallies came on the power play at 7:40 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hamilton and 8:36 into the second to make the score 4-2 Hamilton.

Milton's power play was ineffective against Hamilton's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:40 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

The Red Wings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 51 minutes in penalty time. Hamilton had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Red Wings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Hamilton averages 3.1 goals per contest.

Hamilton also got points from Troy Crema, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Adam Brady, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Dylan Hutton, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Braxton Andrews and Sam Berg, who contributed one a piece.

The Icehawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Milton surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Icehawks were helped by Karndeep Natt, who registered one goal. Natt scored 10:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hamilton. Shane Bennett provided the assist. Milton additionally got points from Daniel Holt, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Michael Capicotto also scored for Milton. Other players who recorded assists for Milton were Austin Kosack and Josh Pace, who each chipped in one.

Allen Avery made 18 saves for the Red Wings on 21 shots. Hamilton registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Andrews, Berg, Mark Inglis, and Liam Bird were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Milton's Brett Gilmour stopped 23 shots out of the 29 that he faced. For the Icehawks, Pace and Patrick Arnold were ejected from the contest.
