Stouffville survives Pickering comeback, wins 7-5

The Pickering Panthers almost clawed their way back from a five-goal deficit, but the Stouffville Spirit managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end.

Stouffville led by five goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Spirit's Mackenzie Wood's scored at 15:13 in the second period to put Stouffville up 6-1.

The Spirit got the win thanks to a great game by Dylan Savory, who had two goals and two assists. Savory scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:22 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Stouffville. Stouffville had taken the advantage when Pickering's Jeff Heard got sent off for cross checking. Sean Power picked up the assist. Savory's next tally on the power play made the score 7-5 Stouffville with 19 seconds left in the third period.

The Spirit forced the Panthers' goaltenders to work without much rest, firing 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. CJ Sharp made 14 stops and Spencer Bacon made 19. Stouffville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Pickering power plays. The Spirit surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Stouffville averages 3.6 goals per contest.

Stouffville additionally got points from Alex Botten, who also registered one goal and three assists, Robert Powers, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Jacob Bauchman, who also had one goal and one assist. Stefan vonEngelbrechten also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Justin Wain, Matthew Heffernan, and Corey DeRose, who each chipped in one.

Pickering made Spirit's goalies to work all game long, getting 40 shots and forcing 35 saves. Braydon Banitsiotis made 28 stops and Knick Dawe made seven. The Panthers outdid their season average for goals scored. Pickering averages 2.9 goals per game. The Panthers struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Pickering was led by Alex Clements, who grabbed two goals. Clements scored the first of his two goals at 17:17 into the second period to make the score 6-2 Stouffville. Jarett Smith assisted on the tally. Clements' next tally made the score 6-4 Stouffville with 15:20 left in the third period. Sean Levac picked up the assist. Pickering also got points from Brodie Tutton, who also registered one goal and one assist. Pickering also got a goal from Tanner Bull as well. In addition, Pickering received assists from Andrew McCann, who had two and Derek Sheppard and Cody Doiron, who contributed one a piece.

The Spirit incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
