Toronto survives Hamilton comeback, wins 5-3

The Hamilton Red Wings tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Toronto Junior Canadiens would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Toronto took a 5-1 lead during the second period, only to have Hamilton storm back on a Jordan Merante goal 6:18 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Junior Canadiens forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Toronto surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Junior Canadiens' offense rang up 33 shots on the Red Wings' net. Toronto bested its season scoring average. The Junior Canadiens have scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Toronto was led by Anthony Repaci, who finished with one goal and one assist. Repaci scored on the power play 11:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Toronto. A slashing penalty on Liam Bird had put the Junior Canadiens on the power play. Luca Doctor assisted on the tally. Toronto also got points from Andrew Mullen, who also had one goal and one assist. Mark Spadafora also scored for Toronto. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Travis Hill, who had two and Daniel Lombardi, Matthew Nosella, Dalton APM Hnatko, and Nicholas Jarzabek, who each chipped in one.

Hamilton forced Toronto goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Red Wings were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time.

Hamilton also got a goal from Adam Brady as well. More assists for Hamilton came via Troy Crema, Luke Laidlaw, Jason OConnor, and Alex LeBrosse, who contributed one a piece.

Dubblestyne recorded 41 saves for the Junior Canadiens. Toronto registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Junior Canadiens ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lombardi was ejected from the game. Hamilton's Jason Pucciarelli stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Red Wings registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Hamilton, Laidlaw was ejected from the game.
