Burns' big game bests Hamilton in 9-4 Milton win

The Milton Icehawks had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-4 win over the Hamilton Red Wings.

Ryan Burns was all over the ice for Milton, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Burns scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:44 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Milton. The Icehawks had gotten the advantage when Hamilton's Jason OConnor was sent off for roughing. Shane Bennett provided the assist. Burns' next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Milton with 3:47 left in the second period. Milton earned a power play opportunity when Jake Rennie was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Tyler Burns assisted on the tally.

The Red Wings' eight penalties came back to haunt them, as Hamilton let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Icehawks made Red Wings' netminders to work all game long, taking 41 shots and forcing 32 saves. Rennie made 26 stops and Jason Pucciarelli made six. Milton stifled the Red Wings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Icehawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Milton averages 4.2 goals per game.

Milton additionally got points from Jonathon Buttitta, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Austin Kosack, who also had one goal and two assists, Spencer Gourlay, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Bennett, who also registered two goals and one assist. Milton also got a goal from Griffin Leach as well. More assists for Milton came via Justin Devincentis, who had two and Brock Bottachio, Jake Baird, Poul Gonzalez, and Patrick Arnold, who contributed one a piece.

Hamilton was led by Harrison Luce, who tallied one goal and one assist. Luce scored 9:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Milton. Niko Porikos provided the assist. Hamilton also got points from Porikos, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Troy Crema also scored for Hamilton. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Alex LeBrosse and Liam Bird, who each chipped in one.

Justin Urquhart recorded 26 saves for the Icehawks. Milton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Red Wings incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
