GAME RECAP

Toronto vanquishes Hamilton in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Mountain Arena    Sat, Sep 22, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toronto Junior Canadiens defeated the Hamilton Red Wings in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Hamilton's shootout goal was scored by Spencer MacCormack. In addition to the clincher, Toronto got a shootout goal from Anthony Repaci.

The Junior Canadiens came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Toronto trailed 3-0 after a goal by the Red Wings' Aaron Spivak at 9:38 in the first period. The Junior Canadiens knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Danny Liscio at 17:26 in the third period.

Denny Dubblestyne frustrated Hamilton's offense all game, and stopped 30 shots en route to a shutout. The solid play of Dubblestyne will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.16.

Toronto put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Red Wings to score on any of their four power plays. Hamilton was unable to stop the Junior Canadiens from sending pucks towards the net, and Toronto eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Nicholas Jarzabek also scored for Toronto. More assists for Toronto came via Daniel Lombardi, Derek Perl, Adam Logozzo, Gregory Di Tomaso, Jimin Kim, and Robert Cammalleri, who each chipped in one.

The Red Wings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Toronto power plays. Hamilton forced the Junior Canadiens goalie Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

The Red Wings were helped by Nick Scamurra, who registered one goal. Scamurra scored 5:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hamilton. Liam Bird provided the assist. Hamilton also got a goal from Adam DiBrina as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Spencer Hyman, who had two and Troy Crema, MacCormack, and Adam Brady, who contributed one a piece.

Toronto incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jason Pucciarelli made 34 saves for Hamilton on 37 shots. The Red Wings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
