Newmarket holds on for 4-3 win against Trenton

The Trenton Golden Hawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Newmarket Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Newmarket took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Trenton storm back on a Jordan Minello goal 10:15 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Daniel Leavens had two goals to lead the Hurricanes to victory.

Newmarket stifled the Golden Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Newmarket also got points from Jeff Murray, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Ian Farrell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Taylor Chick, who had one and Brandon Francisco and Calvin Higley, who contributed two a piece.

Trenton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their three power plays.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Robbie Hall, who had one goal. Hall scored 2:58 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Mike Nedoszytko provided the assist. Trenton additionally got points from Shawn Hulshof, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Trenton came via Josh Timpano, Nolan Martin, Brandon Scott, and Ryan Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket's Matthew Wintjes stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brendan O'Neill (APJ) made 22 saves for Trenton on 26 shots. The Golden Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
