Cobourg downs Newmarket in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

Justin Danforth gave the Cobourg Cougars a 2-1 (OT) victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes when he scored 56 seconds into the extra period.

Cobourg was led by goalie Joe Keyser, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Keyser certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.39 entering the contest.

The Cougars were led by Danforth, who registered one goal and one assist.

Cobourg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Cobourg also got points from Evan Jasper, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Matt Martin and Corey Helliwell, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their three power plays.

The Hurricanes were led by Matt LeMasurier, who scored the team's only goal. LeMasurier scored 19:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Riley Brooks assisted on the tally.

Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matthew Wintjes made 25 saves for Newmarket on 27 shots. The Hurricanes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
