Burlington survives Hamilton comeback, wins 5-3

The Hamilton Red Wings almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Burlington Cougars managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Burlington led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cougars' Cooper Richards' scored short handed at 3:05 in the second period to put Burlington up 3-0.

Shane Conacher had two goals and one assist to lead the Cougars. Conacher scored the first of his two goals at 6:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Ellery O Hara picked up the assist. Conacher's next tally made the score 4-2 Burlington with 11:23 left in the third period. Tyler Lepore assisted on the tally.

Burlington's offense rang up 43 shots on Hamilton's net. The Cougars' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Gavin Shantz also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Tyler Mayea and Mark Rodgers, who each chipped in one.

The Red Wings were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Hamilton was helped by Liam Bird, who grabbed one goal. Bird scored on the power play 5:17 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Burlington. The Red Wings earned a power play opportunity when O Hara was put in the box for high sticking. Troy Crema provided the assist. Hamilton additionally got points from Crema, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Hamilton also got a goal from Adam Brady as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Luke Laidlaw and Adam DiBrina, who contributed one a piece.

Burlington's Alex Murray stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jason Pucciarelli rejected 38 shots on goal for Hamilton. The Red Wings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
